My thoughts are blogs and other forms of social networking are not so new anymore and they are now proving themselves as great ways to generate new and additional business. In my opinion, marketing your business online is the way forward and a lot of small businesses are starting to do it and are seeing great results.
So, what does the word blogging mean to you? Simply, it is a way to update and share information, offers, changes and anecdotes with your customers, suppliers, competitors and contacts, all via the World Wide Web. Blogging is like a running commentary on what your business is doing, what is new and changing all whilst making and maintaining contact with your customer base. Social networking is the same concept, but on a smaller scale.
Think of these marketing tools as an alternative to traditional face to face networking.Websites, and in fact, any online marketing activity are cost effective, quick, measured and proven marketing tools for businesses to use to raise profiles, increase brand awareness, increase traffic and ultimately, increase sales and profit. Having a blog linked to your website will work wonders in improving your SEO and climbing up the Google rankings on content related searches.
Top tips for you to think about for your blog:
- Hosted or Self-Hosted? Self hosted sites are more flexible and easier to customise but hosted ones can be cheaper.
- What will its purpose be? It should of course reflect your business goals and aims, but you need to decide on its purpose.
- Will it be to increase and enhance your reputation or will it be to purely help SEO for your website and social networking activities?
- Once you know its purpose, you need to decide what style of blog you will be going for. Do you want it to be informative or very sales like or based purely on content?
There is no right or wrong answer here, as long as you remain focused on your business aims and the blog’s purpose.
