According to an article recently published by the CIM, the two trends in marketing to watch in 2012 are those of mobile marketing and social marketing. In other words, more use of mobile phones and social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin.

In terms of social networking, whether you are selling to the consumer market or directly to businesses, these are ideal platforms for you to use. They are very simple to set up, they are free and they are not difficult or time-consuming to maintain. They are a great way of getting your message across to a mass audience and they are great for networking and for raising the profile of yourself and your business.
As for using mobiles for marketing, this mainly means SMS messages and texts. This is more generally used when promoting to consumers, B2C. For example, I get texts from my dental surgery the day before my next appointment. I also get texts from my garage when my car has been in and it is fixed and ready to collect. These reminders are very good customer service examples, as well as subtly keeping the business in the forefront of the customer’s minds.
