Before you think you have stumbles across the wrong blog, I am referring to trends in fashion, but trends in web design.
Whatever the design of your website, it should have clear goals and a sense of purpose. It must also compliment your other marketing activities and it should be branded with your company logo and messaging. Plus, always, include a call to action on each page. This could be downloading a brochure or document, sending an email, making a phone call, signing up to receive information etc etc.
With all the latest advancements in technology, it can be very easy to get overwhelmed with what your website should look like, whether you are starting from the beginning or modernising your current website.
So, what are the current trends?
- Simplicity. Keep it simple so your site can be easily uploaded and viewed on Blackberries, iPhones etc.
- Colours. Use colours that go together and that compliment each other. Avoid contrasts. Also choose your font carefully so it looks professional and it is legible.
- Touch screen. Will you be wanting drop down menus or hover buttons? Remember to consider if your users will be viewing your site using a touch screen gadget?
- Links. Links to other websites, in and out, are great for improving your organic and long term SEO. Also linking to your various other social networking profiles is a good idea too and very popular. Linking via icons is popular as it provides something visual too. Let your customers “like” you via your profiles on Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook.
